Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh – May 21, 2025: In a major crackdown on examination malpractice, Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested 53 candidates hailing from Haryana for allegedly cheating during a state-level police recruitment examination. The arrests were made on Sunday following a coordinated operation across multiple exam centers in the state.
The arrested individuals were appearing for the Arunachal Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2025, a highly competitive test aimed at filling vacant positions in the state's police force. According to official reports, the candidates were found using unfair means to gain an advantage during the examination process.
Arrests Made Across Multiple Locations
Law enforcement officials stated that the arrests took place in various districts, including Itanagar, Naharlagun, and Papum Pare. The police were acting on prior intelligence inputs and surveillance, which indicated a larger network facilitating organized cheating in the examination.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Jimmy Chiram confirmed that several electronic gadgets, including Bluetooth-enabled devices and miniature microphones, were recovered from the accused. Authorities suspect that the cheating syndicate may have involved coaching centers and intermediaries based outside Arunachal Pradesh.
Organized Cheating Ring Suspected
Investigators believe that the arrested individuals may be part of a well-organized cheating racket operating across states. Preliminary findings suggest that candidates had paid large sums of money to secure leaked exam content and technical assistance during the test.
A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to further probe the matter, and more arrests may follow. The police are currently working to identify the main perpetrators and coordinators behind the operation.
Chief Minister Condemns Incident
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu condemned the incident, emphasizing the government’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the recruitment process. “Strict action will be taken against those found guilty. We will ensure that only deserving and meritorious candidates are selected to serve the people,” he said.
Recruitment Exam May Be Re-conducted
The Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) has indicated that it may cancel and re-conduct the examination to ensure a fair recruitment process. An official statement is expected soon.
Public Reaction and Concern
The incident has sparked public outrage in Arunachal Pradesh, with several student unions and civil society organizations demanding a thorough investigation. Citizens have raised concerns about the increasing involvement of interstate actors in state-specific competitive exams, which they say undermines local candidates.
