IGP Kashmir Reviews Security Arrangements for SANJY 2025 and Muharram Processions

Srinagar, May 21, 2025Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V. K. Birdi, chaired a high-level meeting today to review and streamline security arrangements ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2025 and the upcoming Muharram processions across the Kashmir Valley.

Held at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, the meeting was attended by senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and intelligence agencies. The primary focus was on ensuring a secure, peaceful, and well-coordinated environment for both the yatra and the religious processions, which see large participation from devotees and mourners respectively.

Strategic Planning for Amarnath Yatra 2025

The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is scheduled to begin in late June and will continue for 62 days. IGP Birdi emphasized the need for close coordination among different security agencies to facilitate smooth movement of pilgrims along both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes.

"Special attention must be given to vulnerable points along the yatra route, base camps, and transit points. Area domination and round-the-clock surveillance should be ensured," said IGP Birdi during the review.

The meeting discussed in detail the deployment of forces, crowd control measures, medical assistance points, traffic management, and communication systems to respond promptly to emergencies.

Ensuring Peaceful Muharram Observances

With Muharram to be observed in July, IGP Kashmir directed officers to adopt a people-friendly approach while maintaining law and order. Sensitive zones, including areas in Srinagar and parts of central and north Kashmir, were identified for heightened vigilance during the Ashura and related processions.

Community engagement and coordination with local religious leaders were highlighted as key strategies to prevent any untoward incidents. The police chief also underscored the importance of monitoring online platforms to curb the spread of rumors and inflammatory content.

Technology-Driven Surveillance and Coordination

Officials revealed that drone surveillance, high-resolution CCTV monitoring, and mobile command centers will be deployed during both SANJY 2025 and Muharram. The integration of intelligence-sharing mechanisms was also stressed to enhance situational awareness.

Public Cooperation Key to Success

IGP Birdi appealed to the general public to cooperate with the police and security forces during the yatra and Muharram processions. He assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of devotees, tourists, and locals alike.

"We are committed to maintaining peace and ensuring that these important religious events are conducted with dignity, security, and communal harmony," he added.
