New Delhi, May 19 – Former Australian cricketer and renowned coach Tom Moody has expressed strong confidence in young Indian batters Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, praising their ability to adapt to different match situations and "move through the gears" when required.
Speaking in the context of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Moody highlighted the maturity shown by the Gujarat Titans duo, especially in high-pressure scenarios. He noted that both players have demonstrated the kind of versatility and temperament that is essential for success at the highest levels of the game.
“They’re both quality players,” said Moody. “What I like about both of them is that they’ve learnt how to move through the gears. That’s an important attribute, particularly for top-order batters.”
Sudharsan, who played a pivotal role in Gujarat Titans' campaign, and Gill, the team’s captain and one of India’s most promising young cricketers, have been lauded throughout the season for their consistency and ability to construct innings under varying conditions.
Moody also emphasized the importance of young players learning to pace their innings instead of relying solely on aggressive stroke play. He cited their composure and ability to assess game situations as critical traits that will serve them well in both domestic and international cricket.
“Being able to start an innings with composure, and then accelerating when needed, is what defines a top-level batter,” Moody added.
Gill and Sudharsan’s partnership has been central to Gujarat Titans' top-order strength, and their performances are drawing attention beyond the IPL, with potential long-term roles in the Indian national setup being speculated.
