Rajkot, Gujarat – May 19, 2025 — In a decisive move to curb criminal activities and reclaim public land, Rajkot Police have demolished approximately 60 illegal constructions associated with 38 habitual offenders. This extensive operation, conducted on Monday, targeted properties including unauthorized homes, shops, and structures used for illicit activities.
The demolition drive was executed under the directives of the Gujarat Home Department and the Director General of Police, as part of a broader initiative to dismantle the infrastructure supporting criminal enterprises across the state. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-2) Jagdish Bangarwa stated that the properties were identified through a comprehensive list of repeat offenders involved in serious crimes such as murder, theft, robbery, and drug trafficking.
Approximately 2,610 square meters of land were cleared during the operation, which involved coordinated efforts from law enforcement and municipal authorities. The demolitions were aimed at disrupting the operational bases of these offenders and sending a strong message against illegal encroachments.
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi emphasized the government's commitment to law and order, stating, "Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Bhai Patel, the Gujarat Police is determined to act against those who commit crimes, harass innocent people, or encroach on government land."
This action is part of a larger, state-wide initiative where authorities are targeting illegal constructions linked to criminal activities. Similar demolition drives have been reported in other cities, including Ahmedabad and Jamnagar, focusing on properties unlawfully built on government land or used for illegal operations.
The Rajkot Police's recent operation underscores the state's zero-tolerance policy towards crime and illegal encroachments, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law.
