New Delhi, May 22, 2025 — Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has called for renewed national focus on alternative systems of medicine, highlighting their potential in promoting holistic and preventive healthcare. Speaking at a public event, the Vice President emphasized the importance of integrating traditional medicinal practices such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy with modern medical science.
Dhankhar noted that India possesses a rich heritage of time-tested natural healing methods that are not only cost-effective but also sustainable and culturally relevant. He stated that promoting alternative medicines can significantly enhance the overall healthcare ecosystem by addressing the root causes of illness rather than merely treating symptoms.
"India’s traditional knowledge systems have always emphasized a balanced lifestyle and preventive care. We must tap into this ancient wisdom and align it with contemporary health strategies," said the Vice President.
He urged healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers to invest in evidence-based research and education in the field of alternative medicine. This, he believes, will help build credibility, increase global acceptance, and ensure safe practices for patients.
Dhankhar also acknowledged the government's ongoing efforts to promote AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) and suggested that more public-private partnerships, international collaborations, and digital innovations could accelerate the mainstreaming of these practices.
In line with the growing global interest in wellness and preventive care, the Vice President’s remarks are seen as a strategic push toward positioning India as a global hub for alternative medicine and holistic health.
The Vice President concluded by calling for a united national effort to raise awareness, improve access, and expand the reach of traditional healthcare systems to every corner of the country.
