Amit Shah Unveils Revamped OCI Portal to Enhance Digital Services for Indian Diaspora

New Delhi, May 19, 2025Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah today inaugurated the newly developed Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) portal in New Delhi, aiming to significantly improve the digital experience for OCI cardholders worldwide.

Developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the upgraded portal addresses previous shortcomings by incorporating modern technological advancements and feedback from existing OCI cardholders. The new platform offers a more user-friendly, efficient, and seamless interface for individuals of Indian origin residing overseas.

The OCI card provides people of Indian origin, who have obtained citizenship in another country, with lifelong visa-free travel to India and certain economic and educational rights. With the increasing number of OCI holders globally, there has been a growing demand for improved digital services and more responsive systems.

The revamped portal is part of the government's broader initiative to modernize citizen services and enhance digital governance, especially for the Indian diaspora. This launch underscores the commitment to providing world-class services to overseas Indians, aligning with the nation's vision of a digitally empowered society.

Key Features of the New OCI Portal:

  • Enhanced user interface for easier navigation and application processing.

  • Streamlined procedures for OCI card applications and renewals

  • Improved communication channels for user support and feedback.

  • Integration of advanced security measures to protect user data.

The launch of the new OCI portal is expected to significantly benefit the Indian diaspora by simplifying access to services and ensuring a more efficient and secure user experience.
