Pinarayi Vijayan Inaugurates 'Professional Connect 2025'; Warns Against Rising Superstition in Academic Circles

Thiruvananthapuram, May 17, 2025Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the much-anticipated 'Professional Connect 2025' on Saturday in Thiruvananthapuram, delivering a powerful message on the need to uphold scientific temper and rational thinking, especially within academic and professional institutions.

The event, a convergence of professionals, educators, students, and thought leaders, aims to foster collaboration across disciplines, encourage innovation, and prepare youth for the rapidly evolving global job landscape.

A Platform with Purpose

Addressing a packed audience at the capital city’s convention center, CM Vijayan emphasized that while Kerala continues to lead in education and social development, there is a troubling rise in the spread of superstition and unscientific beliefs, even within intellectual spaces.

"We cannot allow irrationality to cloud our institutions of learning and research. The foundation of progress is critical thinking, not blind belief," Vijayan stated, drawing strong applause from the audience.

Safeguarding Scientific Spirit

Vijayan pointed out that Kerala has historically been a torchbearer of progressive values and scientific inquiry, and urged educational institutions to take a firm stand against pseudoscientific practices and superstitious ideologies creeping into curricula and campus culture.

The youth must be empowered with knowledge and critical reasoning. Let us not let superstition undermine our potential,” he added.

Spotlight on Professional Growth

'Professional Connect 2025' is organized as a part of Kerala’s ongoing mission to enhance career opportunities and equip young professionals with the tools to excel. The event features panel discussions, skill-building workshops, and mentorship sessions with industry leaders.

Participants praised the initiative as a timely effort to bridge the gap between education and employment, while also nurturing a socially responsible mindset among the youth.

A Call to Action

In a world driven by technology, science, and logic, the Chief Minister’s call to combat superstition resonated deeply. Many attendees took to social media to express support for the speech, with hashtags like #ScientificKerala and #SayNoToSuperstition trending locally.
