Nellore, Andhra Pradesh – May 17, 2025 — A massive fire broke out early this morning at a scrap factory located in Pella kuru Colony, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, triggering panic among local residents and raising concerns over industrial safety in the area.
Fire at Nellore Scrap Yard Under Control, No Casualties Reported
According to local authorities, the blaze was first reported around 5:30 AM, with thick plumes of smoke seen billowing from the premises. Fire and emergency services rushed to the scene immediately, deploying multiple fire engines to contain the rapidly spreading flames.
Preliminary reports suggest that combustible materials stored at the site may have contributed to the intensity of the fire. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.
Emergency Response and Ongoing Investigation
“The fire was brought under control after nearly three hours of continuous efforts,” said a senior fire department official. “We are currently assessing the cause of the fire, but initial evidence points to a possible short circuit or improper storage of flammable materials.”
District authorities have launched an inquiry into the safety protocols followed by the scrap factory, which is believed to be operating in a densely populated area without adequate fire safety measures.
Residents Evacuated as a Precautionary Measure
As a precaution, nearby residential blocks were temporarily evacuated to ensure public safety. Local police cordoned off the area to prevent public movement and facilitate fire-fighting operations.
“We heard loud noises and saw black smoke engulfing the area. It was terrifying,” said Ramesh K., a resident of Pellakuru Colony.
Focus on Industrial Safety in Andhra Pradesh
This incident has once again spotlighted the urgent need for strict enforcement of fire safety norms, particularly in scrap yards and industrial units located near residential neighborhoods.
Officials from the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) and municipal authorities are expected to inspect the site to evaluate environmental and safety compliance.
