Kedarnath, Uttarakhand | May 17, 2025 — A helicopter ambulance operated by AIIMS Rishikesh made an emergency crash-landing near the holy town of Kedarnath on Friday due to a sudden technical malfunction. Fortunately, all individuals onboard, including medical personnel and crew members, are reported to be safe, according to Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey.
The incident occurred during a critical medical evacuation mission in the high-altitude region of Kedarnath, a popular pilgrimage site nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas. Officials confirmed that the pilot executed a controlled emergency landing after detecting a mid-air technical issue, preventing a major disaster.
Technical Glitch Causes Mid-Air Scare
According to preliminary reports, the helicopter experienced an unspecified mechanical failure that necessitated an immediate landing. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the malfunction. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to conduct a detailed probe into the technical aspects of the incident.
“We are grateful that the crew responded promptly and professionally. No casualties or injuries were reported,” said Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey in a statement.
